Calling It In

Uncategorized Jan 08, 2016

Look back through 2015, this was a tough year for a lot of people. Not necessarily in relation to tragedy, but more so in terms of pushing through barriers and personal challenges. I’ve certainly noticed it in all of the coaching work I’ve been doing in the past year.

Think about some of the things that have been a highlight for you this year…

Where have you grown? How do you know that you’ve grown?

Maybe you made a huge decision to leave your job, embark on a new venture or finally start that project that you’ve always wanted to. Everything from relocation to reinvention.

Leave anything negative in 2015 behind you.

To be clear… I’m not a fan of “New Years Resolutions…

It’s really important to be aware of the seeds and intentions that you are planting for the year ahead.

Caution: Residual stress, grudges or angst will try to carry through to the new year. Don’t let it!

This conscious “moving on” process applies to relationships as well. We need to honor the good that we got from it and take the lessons, making sure that we don’t carry any destructive behaviors into our next relationship.

I don’t believe that we end up in relationships that are a waste of  time. There are countless lessons and wisdom to draw from all relationships.

Here’s a fun project - create a vision board.

Gather all the materials and then ask yourself this key question:

How do I want my life to look?

Then create it.

Start with your intended results that you’d like to see manifest in 2016.

There are two types of results; Measurable and Immeasurable.

A measurable result is “I wanted to buy a house and I did it”.

An immeasurable result is “I can finally let my hair down and relax”.

A lot of things may have happened for you to attain that measurable result, but it’s not something you necessarily had to follow or check in with all the time. It’s a more organic process.

Here are 3 aspects of your life that I encourage you to look at in 2016.

Who do you want to become?

What do you want to do?

What do I want to have?

Through who I am and what I’ve done, what do I want to have?

#1 Dare to Dream

Being a new Dad, I’ve been inspired by my son’s awestruck view of the world. We’re all born with eyes, minds and hearts that see infinite possibilities in the world. Tap back into that child-like feeling of knowing that dreams ARE attainable. Let your imagination take over for a second. Put aside your rational mind and imagine the possibilities of what this next year could be for you. Your vision board will keep you inspired!

#2 Don’t write goals. Write results.

A goal is more like “something over there that I have to move towards”. A result is “Here’s what I’ve actually done”. There’s more action and execution to a result. Imagine yourself at the end of 2016 and write down everything you’d want to have achieved.

Let’s reframe the concept of a resolution.

Let’s think of it more as a SOLUTION.

You have problems or challenges. Some unresolved conflicts that may well carry into 2016.

I’ve been a shrink for 28 years. I can tell you this.

Insights and Epiphanies don’t change anyone!

The key is having an action plan, being accountable to that plan and having people around you who support and care for you as you execute that plan.

I told my community this the other day.

If you just focused on being more present in 2016 you’ll see things completely differently.
